Bye bye Bellini and ciao Cosmopolitan. New research from catering equipment supplier Nisbets, has revealed that the nation’s favourite cocktail is the fresh and minty rum-based Mojito.
UK’s Top Five Cocktails
- Mojito
White rum, sugar, lime juice, soda water, and mint
- Pina Colada

- Gin Fizz

Not everyone agreed though. The Old Fashioned reigned supreme in Belfast, whilst Glasgow’s cocktail connoisseurs preferred something a little more exotic; voting for the Daiquiri. In Manchester, it was the Margarita that topped the poll, while in London the Aperol Spritz came out on top.
But do we really know what we’re drinking? The poll also asked the nation to reveal their favourite cocktail base, and vodka came out on top (30%), despite it not being an ingredient in any of the top five most popular cocktails.
With Christmas party season on the horizon, Nisbets also investigated Brits’ favourite seasonal tipples.
UK’s Top Five Christmas Cocktails
- Snowball
Advocaat Liqueur, lemonade, lime juice
- Eggnog
Eggs, sugar, double cream, milk, rum, bourbon or brandy, nutmeg
- Buck’s fizz
Champagne, orange juice
- Mulled Wine Cocktail

- White Russian

Whilst often good value when considering the amount of alcohol per serving, it seems that cost is a deterrent for many Brits when it comes to cocktails, with many (46%) deeming them to be a treat rather than their ‘go to’ drink.
However, the data showed that if money was no object, a cocktail would be the most popular drink on a night out for over a third of women (39%). The most popular choice amongst men was still beer, with a quarter opting for this as their drink of choice, with 21% opting for cocktails.
